We are delighted to announce the news that our member and Trustee, Frank Galvin has been awarded an MBE in the King’s New Year Honours.
The award was for his contribution to Heritage in Greater Manchester, primarily his role with Elizabeth Gaskell House, where he recently retired as Chair of Trustees.
A former museum professional with Stockport Borough Council, Frank became involved in Society affairs when he and colleague John Baker agreed to act as Museum Advisors during our application to become a Registered Museum in 1997.
Frank continued in his mentor role and following ‘professional’ retirement became a Director in 2011, a role in which he continues as Deputy Chair.
His wide-ranging experience had been of immense benefit to the Society, in particular his support and guidance with our museum and learning activities, the latter a critical component in our successful bid to the National Lottery in 2012 for the overhaul of Bahamas, and latterly in encouraging and leading on our management governance review.
Asked for a comment, Frank said: “I was really delighted to receive the Award and, since the announcement, to receive many very kind comments from friends and colleagues. I’m mindful that awards such as this are never achieved alone but as part of a team, or teams, and over the years I have been fortunate to be part of many great teams, and the opportunity to work together on some really great projects. I am very grateful for the support of all my friends and colleagues at BLS”
